Effect of Chronic Illnesses

Prolonged hospital stays, separations from parents and siblings and other effects of treatment for chronic illnesses can have serious impacts on the emotional health and social development of children with long-term medical conditions such as Diabetes, Deafness, and Spinal Inuries. The Sheldon and Susan Siegel Children’s Foundation works with parents, caregivers and researchers to find the best solutions for ongoing care and the most effective strategies for creating a normal environment for children undergoing treatment for chronic illnesses in the state of Florida.

Balancing Medical Treatment and Quality of Life

Studies have shown that children who undergo extensive treatment for chronic illnesses early in life can be vulnerable to emotional, psychological and social issues later. Making sure children have time to enjoy some of the activities they enjoy with friends and family can help to prevent emotional isolation and delays in social development. Our Florida children’s foundation is committed to helping kids with serious illnesses enjoy the best possible quality of life. We support families, children and medical researchers in dealing with chronic illnesses and searching for better treatments and potential cures.

Making Time for Fun

With constant rounds of appointments and treatments that could leave your child tired and worn down, it can be difficult to set aside time to be together as a family and to have fun. Making sure that your child enjoys some of his or her favorite games, foods and television programs can be a good start toward ensuring that he or she has the emotional foundation to deal with the pain, discomfort and stress of treatment. This may mitigate emotional issues and provide added strength for managing the inconvenience and unpleasantness that can sometimes go along with treatment for serious medical issues. At our Florida special needs children’s charity, we can provide you with help and guidance for ensuring that sick children have time and resources to be children first and foremost and patients on a secondary basis.
